 If you are interested in trying out for the Winburn Volleyball team you need to...... RELAX!  If you are a beginner we will teach you how to play!  

Get your physical.

        It MUST be on the KHSAA physical form.  (Click the link at the top of the page to print one.)

        Please note: 

            This is the only acceptable physical form for playing sports at Winburn. 

            The last four pages must be completed and signed before students can try out for a sport. 

            The physical is good for one calendar year (for example;  June 15, 2008 - June 14, 2009). 

            It covers all sports for that year.

        Plan to attend ALL practices - Starting July 30th!  We will practice every weekday from 4-6pm until school starts.  Our first match is on Monday, the fourth day of school, so we have to pick the team by the second day of school!

            Practice will begin when students are dismissed for after school activities (this is announced at the end of bus dismissal).

            We will have practice every day after school, except game days, or if it is cancelled in advance for some reason.

            Practice will end at 6:00.  You will need to help put away equipment, so plan on leaving at 6:10.

        Make sure you have what you need to wear. 

        For practice you will need:

            T-shirt and shorts (nylon or cotton knit are best for comfort).

            Socks.  They are not optional.

            Athletic shoes (volleyball or basketball shoes are best, any running shoe will do).  Plan on wearing them tied correctly.

            Kneepads are not required just to try out for the team.  If you make the team you will need to get them.  See me for recommendations if you don’t have them already.

            ponytail holder & or headband (elastic) if your hair is long or may get in the way

        For matches you will need:

            Socks (we may all get a matching style, so wait for information on what to buy)

            Shoes  (same as practice)

            Kneepads (see above)

            Ponytail holder/headband (see above)

        If you make the team you will need to....

        Pay your athletic insurance.  It is required, whether or not you have health insurance.  It covers all school sports for the school year.

            The cost is $ 37.05* (make checks to Winburn Middle School)    *as of 07-27-08

        Keep your grades up and have excellent behavior at school.

Participate in fund-raisers to help with team expenses.  There is a $20 team fee (or a goal for fund-raising) per player.  This is necessary so that we will have the money to get us started.  We will also order at least one t-shirt with a number to use as a second uniform top.  This will be yours to keep.
