                                  Information About Our Library

The Winburn Library Media Center is open from 8:35am-4:00pm every school day.  We have over 11,000 volumes of books covering a wide area of subject matter.  There are over 700 reference books, 3,400 fiction books, 6,000 non-fiction books, 397 video recordings, and 36 magazine subscriptions.  In addition to print material, we have 15 student computers with Internet access.  Non-fiction and reference books are arranged according to the Dewey Decimal System.  Fiction books are arranged according to the first three letters of the author’s surname.  Magazines are arranged in alphabetical order by title.

                                                                 Visiting the Library

Students are scheduled to visit the library with their language arts class every two weeks for check out.  However, students can also visit the library to check out books, read, or work on assignments during unscheduled times. Students must have their teacher’s permission and their agenda signed (or library pass) in order to visit the library during an unscheduled time.  Students may choose to come to the library from 8:35am – 8:55am.  During this time students may read magazines, checkout books, take AR tests, read books, or work on class assignments.  Students may not talk, play games, or check email from 8:35am – 8:55am.

                                          Checkout Policy

Students may check out up to two books at any time and keep them for two weeks.  Books may be renewed, as many times as desired, unless someone else requests that book.  Reference books are normally not checked out.  Overdue library book fines are five cents per book per school day.  Students will not be allowed to check out additional library books if they have an overdue book or owe an overdue book fine over $1.00.  Fines can be paid with cash or checks made out to Winburn.  Fines can also be paid for with Box Tops.  Students are responsible for books checked out in their name and will be required to pay for damage or loss.   Return books should be placed in the BOOK RETURN SLOT at the Circulation Desk.  Students may check out one magazine for two weeks as long as they don’t have any fines or overdue books.  Students normally may only check out two items at a time.  Students will receive late notices of overdue books from their Language Arts’ teachers every two weeks.  Students who can’t check out books can borrow books from the read and swap bookshelves.

Behavior

Students are expected to follow their team’s expectations and follow Winburn’s Guidelines for Success while they are in the library.  Mrs. O’Brien will CHAMP each lesson or activity.
